Where these photos were taken
Hot Comedy runs downstairs at Hot Toddy’s, 48–50 Camden High Street, two minutes from Camden Town station. It is a small basement room: low ceiling, red lighting, a proper stage and a bar at the back — close enough that the front row is part of the show and the whole crowd hears every aside.
Every bill is booked rather than open-mic: a compere who knows the room, support acts on the way up and a headliner with festival, TV or radio credits. That is the atmosphere these pictures are trying to capture — a full basement, drinks in hand, somewhere between a comedy club and a late Camden bar.
What you're looking at
The first set of photos is the venue itself — the bar upstairs and the comedy room downstairs as you'll find it on the night. The second set is from previous Hot Comedy line-ups: comedians mid-set and the Camden crowds they played to.
